The cost of gas and electricity is dependant on your postcode, with some areas of the UK paying 28% more than others, says a new study.
In this article:
- Brits in Yorkshire and Humberside pay more.
- Average bill paying couple spends £1,248.
- Energy and money saving advice.
According to the research, which surveyed over 2, 000 people, some areas of the UK are paying a staggering 28% more than others - including residents of Yorkshire and Humberside who pay £59 more on their gas and electricity compared to those in the South East.
The average bill paying couple now spends £1,248 a year on gas and electricity and £52 monthly. However, this is for an individual, so if multiplied by two to make an average adult household of bill payers this comes to £104 a month.

Despite price hikes of 17% for gas and 22% for electricity for EDF customers earlier this year a separate study by TheEnergyShop.com claims the average annual stands at £1,190- £58 lower than the average calculated by Fairinvestment.co.uk.
“It is surprising that the regional difference in gas and electricity prices is as high as 28 per cent,” says Fairinvestment.co.uk spokesperson John Corboy.
Despite the fact that most energy companies use regional pricing methods, Corby claims it is unfair that the same product should cost more or less depending on your postcode, “especially when prices are already shooting up.”
“Energy efficiency is becoming a priority as bills increase and more Brits slip over the fuel poverty boundary,” adds Corboy.
“Simple steps like switching off lights or turning the thermostat down can make a difference and are worth doing. It is also worth shopping around and switching energy provider if you think your costs are too high.”
